Bass Ale

Name:  Bass Brewers Limited - Bass Pale Ale
Style:  English Pale Ale
ABV:  5.00%
BeerAdvocate Link:  http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/293/811

My Rating (1–5):  4

Tasting Comments:  Bright copper color, with some minimal and fleeting white foam. The aroma is very subdued, with just a little bit of English hops and sweet maltiness poking through. The taste is much richer in comparison, with a strong malty presence showing caramel and biscuit notes. A mild, almost grassy, hop bitterness balances the malt in the finish but takes a back seat overall.

Notes:  Had on draft at The Society Room in Hartford, CT. Not my pick of dining venue...I'm not that fancy, and I'd have picked a place with a decent beer selection. It's nights like this when I'm glad I've held off on having many "common" beers, so I've got soemthing to fall back on when the beer selection is lacking.

But I could have fared worse than some Bass. At least it's a classic, a standby. And it deserves that reputation by being solid, flavorful, and highly drinkable. It's not super unique or complex, but it's tasty. And that's all that really matters.
