Yuengling Porter

Name:  Yuengling Brewery - Yuengling Porter

Style:  American Porter
ABV:  4.70%
BeerAdvocate Link:  http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23980/921

My Rating (1–5):  4

Tasting Comments:  Clear, coca-cola brown with a short tan head. Aroma is simple roasted malt, with a little nuttiness and some faint cocoa notes. The taste is slightly sweet, roasty, and carries a hint of coffee. The mouthfeel is much lighter and sfter than the color of the beer would have you guess. Bitterness is low, whether from burnt malts or hops.

Notes:  Smooth, easy drinking and surprisingly crisp for a porter. That's probably because it's brewed with a low gravity and a resultingly low ABV. It's got a light, lager-like body and a crisp finish, while still carrying some deep roasted malt character. It's not as intense and "burnt" as most in the porter style, and would be a great beginner's entry into very dark beers. It's definitely an outlier in the style, and I don't think I've ever had anything quite like it. It's really pretty good, if for nothing more than its uniqueness. I'm giving it a 4 even though the real beer snobs are probably turning their nose up at it. I could drink these all day.
