Abita Christmas Ale 2011
Name: Abita Brewing Co. - Christmas Ale 2011
Style: American Brown Ale
ABV: 5.50%
BeerAdvocate Link: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/3/74967
My Rating (1–5): 3.5
Tasting Comments: Deep brown color, with a tall, rocky cream-colored head. Aromas of toasted malt, sweet caramel and dark fruits, and mild pine/citrus hops. The taste is similarly toasty, with caramel and light coffee notes. The hops aren't as bright as they are in the aroma, with more of an earthy bitterness. Echoes of toffee linger briefly in the aftertaste.
Notes: After being given this beer by Eric in February, I decided to wait on it until it was Christmas again. It's not high enough ABV to really benefit frmo cellaring, but I don't think it went bad in that time either. It's not what I would call a Christmas beer anyway, and is just a typical, slightly bitter brown ale. It's a decently well-done one, however. If I had known it was so unseasonal, I wouldn't have sat on it for 10 months.
