Shock Top

Name:  Anheuser-Busch, Inc. - Shock Top Belgian White

Style:  Witbier
ABV:  5.20%
BeerAdvocate Link:  http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29/39908

My Rating (1–5):  3.5

Tasting Comments:  Hazy, orange-tinted gold color with a short white head. The aroma is full of spritzy wheat, some grain husk, and fairly light hints of citrus and coriander. The taste is much more citric, with a lot of brightness from orange peel on top of a crisp, clean wheat malt foundation. A little spiciness from coriander permeates each sip.

Notes:  Wow, BA hates Shock Top. What do you expect from a bunch of beer snobs? I like witbiers a lot, and I admit that this is not the most delicate or complex witbier in the world. But it's still good. Not good for what it's trying to be, but good for what it is: crisp, easy-drinking, and different. It's approachable and enjoyable, even it's a bit dumbed down for the masses. But if it gets a few Bud Light lovers to think about other beer styles and stick a toe in the deep end of craft beer, then it's a good thing.
