Quilmes Stout

Name:  Cervecería y Maltería Quilmes - Stout

Style:  American Stout
ABV:  4.80%
BeerAdvocate Link:  http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1252/47540

My Rating (1–5):  3

Tasting Comments:  Black color with brown around the edges, and a short tan head. The aroma has got some sweet and roasted malt notes, some bread dough and grain husks, with just a fleeting hint of licorice. The taste is sweet and malty, but not of deeply roasted malts. There is a noticeable chocolate character, but more like a milk chocolate than dark and bitter. The finish is clean.

Notes:  Thanks to Eric for bringing this one back from his South American honeymoon. He set the expectations pretty low, but I actually thought it was decent. It's not a stout at all, except maybe in appearance. Instead, it comes across a lot like a Munich Dunkel in the flavor profile. It's surprising when you're expecting a stout, but it's not badly done once you accept that cognitive dissonance.
